To get a quick response you’ll need to have a question that can be posted in a high volume topic area such as Random Crap or Askville. More people check those topics than more rarefied topics such as books, pets or Islam to name a few. So, once you’ve asked a question and posted it in a high traffic area, the type of question that you’ve asked will determine how quickly you receive an answer. Obviously, if you ask an opinion question dealing with a subject of common knowledge, except fast responses. If the question calls for a fact, if the answer can be researched quickly through going to Wikipedia, you’ll get a fast set of answers also. Asking questions that call for deep research or specialized knowledge, such as questions about tax law will slow down the answering process considerably. I suspect that the KISS principle applies to questions asked on Askville.

There are a lot of people here who know quite a bit about computers (I like to think none of them know as much as I do, but I’d be wrong). Quite often, someone will come along with an easy question, such as: “I want to use a picture of my cat as my desktop wallpaper. How do I get it to fill up the entire screen?” The answer to this question is a simple procedure that can be done on any PC with a few mouse clicks. Those questions often fill up in minutes. Here is a real question, asked yesterday, that got 5 answers inside of an hour (I didn’t take this one): http://askville.amazon.com/CD-R-RW-drive-eject-Open-force-open-CD-Runing-Windows-XP/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=7697571&nc=0 This is another example of an easy question that lots of folks can answer. Everyone mentioned the same trick, although one of the answerers sugge

Most of my question are opinion questions. Questions that do not have a right or wrong answer and let people open up about themselves. Not to brag, but I find it is a rare question that does not get all five answers in a couple of hours. I also try not to be too wordy with my questions and have a long detail comment. I personally avoid questions that have a long detail that goes on and one. Most people I find like a simple question, not one that needs a lot of research to answer. It also helps if you rate people fairly (which I always do). An opinion is an opinion and all answers get a good score from me. I have asked political questions sometimes and get pretty good answers as well. Sometimes it can open up a rant so those questions are not as much fun as good old opinion ones.
