If I understand you correctly by “saddles party lines” I think the answer is the Republicans clearly do it best. The Republicans, on most issues, tends to have relatively clearly defined party lines and few in the party will step outside those lines. One of the reasons for this, of course, is the conservative nature of the party and its principles. By nature, their policy prescriptions and stances on issues are generally traditional, conservative, and a position that is either reflected to some degree in the status quo or has been historically represented. Another reason I would cite the Repubicans over the Democrats is the Republicans, it seem, have a much smaller tent to construct, or a much less diverse base. There are business Republicans, their are social conservative Republicans, there are national security republicans, but most are still relatively close on the political spectrum and are economically close, predominantly upper or middle class.
