I think that Oreck vacuum cleaners are great. I have good experience with them. They last long, are lightweight, and really pick up dirt well.

I've had 3 Dysons since 1999, and I thought they were the bomb until I tried a Miele Cat & Dog - it is the only one that picked up ALL the dog (and human) hair on my very thick carpet. The Dyson is all show and not that powerful. (The upright is OK except if you have stairs; the other ones with the tube are much weaker.) They tend to fall apart too easily as well, while the Miele is built like a brick sh*****. The only thing is you will need to go back to vacuum bags with a Miele - some users are not prepared to sacrifice form over function. A Dyson is just too pretty!
