That is one of the most realistic crash scenes I have ever seen! I’m a pilot, and to me, the part where they come out of the clouds at an unrecoverable angle is a very scary sight. The plane is actually not an MD-11 or a DC-10, but an Airbus A300. You’ll notice that the plane that crashes doesn’t have an engine in the tail like those two aircraft, and FedEx uses a lot of A300s and A310s in the United States. There’s a pretty good shot of the aircraft when Tom Hanks and Helen Hunt are talking before Tom Hanks gets on the plane. In that picture you can clearly see that it’s an Airbus. This is actually kind of a point of discussion amongst people that know a lot about these FedEx planes, because the movie has some mistakes in it when it comes to the details of the plane.
