Who are Free The Children’s supporters?
On average, approximately 65% of Free The Children’s funding comes from young people around the world who undertake fundraising drives and donate their birthday, bar and bat mitzvah money. On average, approximately 35% of the organization’s funding comes from adult donors, foundations, corporations and government. There are many inspiring stories of young people working to help their peers in developing countries. For example, students at Our Lady of Lourdes School, an inner-city school in Toronto raised $3,000 to help build a school for children in a struggling Nicaraguan community. The same spirit moved an 8-year-old boy who wrote to Free The Children saying, “I’m not rich, but I have more money than these children do. I want to help free to free them.” He collected pop bottles at the trailer camp where he lives and sold them to raise $31.27 to help buy school supplies. Free The Children is challenging adults and corporations to match the donations of young people.
