Who Are Some Of The Most Infamous People To Ever Be In The US Armed Forces?
Infamous = “…deserving of or causing an evil reputation” (Merriam-Webster) On that note, here are a few. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but just the ones that immediately come to mind that will cover all four branches of service. – Benedict Arnold (US Colonial Army) – traitor (acted as a spy for the British – apx. 1780) whose name has become synonymous with the act of treason/backstabbing (kind of like the “famous,” not infamous, John Hancock – first signer of the Declaration of Independence, now name is synonymous with the act of signing). – John Anthony Walker (US Navy) – traitor during the cold war selling vital secrets to the Soviet Union (apx. 1967 – 1985). When his son grew up and joined the service, he even recruited him into his spy ring. Caused great damage to national security. A TV movie was about him in the 80s (Family of Spies). Currently serving life sentence (no parole). – Lee Harvey Oswald (US Marines) – Unsuccessfully attempted to defect to the Soviet Union
