James K. Polk believed in Manifest Destiny and it was one of the causes of the Mexican War. In 1893, The historian, Frederick Jackson Turner, delivered a paper called “The Significance of the Frontier in American History”. In this text he officially declared the American frontier as closed because all the free land was given ownership. At that time Manifest Destiny ceased. It would be strange for anybody to believe in Manifest Destiny today but it was quite common to believe in it back in the 1800s.
