Who can tell me if my blood sugar is normal?

Prior to a meal a normal person runs about 4.6mmol/l (83mg/dl) and after a meal it knocks up to somewhere around 6.6mmol/l or 120mg/dl an hour or so later. This depends upon how much you ate and how fast it’s processed. 3.8 isn’t bad if you’ve been exercising, 5.2 is fine and 7.1 is also fine provided that it drops from there… …I wouldn’t worry about it – there are times when I’m cycling where my blood sugar will be really low as I cycle in the mornings prior to any food. I bet it rockets after that…

You are using a METRIC measurement system. NORMAL blood sugar readings in the METRIC readings are between 5 and 6. Diabetes is NOT diagnosed based on ONLY ONE reading. You need SEVERAL high (more than 7) readings to be diagnosed as diabetic. YOUR problem is taking RANDOM readings. DO NOT TAKE RANDOM READINGS, AND ESPECIALLY NOT USING YOUR FRIENDS METER! (YOUR readings screw up HER averages!) For the readings to be meaningful, you need to do them at prescribed times every day. those times are: 5 minutes before breakfast 5 minutes before lunch 5 minutes before dinner 5 minutes before bed. In this case ALL of those reading should be close to normal (between 5 and 6, no higher than 7). IF you get consistent readings (day after day) over 7, then you should see a doctor and ASK FOR a test called A1C. THIS test will tell the doctor if you are diabetic or not. If your blood sugars are consistently less than 6.5, you are in good shape, and you do not need to worry.
