Voter qualifications: A person is entitled to be an elector in the Town of Fort Erie municipal elections, if on voting day he or she is: a Canadian citizen; and at least 18 years old; and resides in the Town of Fort Erie or is the owner or tenant of land in Fort Erie or the spouse of such owner or tenant; and not otherwise prohibited from voting. Who is prohibited from voting? The following persons cannot vote in a municipal election: a person serving a sentence or imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution; or a corporation; or a person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity except as a voting proxy in accordance with Section 44 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996; or a person convicted of a corrupt practice for an election held within five years of voting day for the election in respect of which they were convicted.
