Compiled by different “sects” through out history. I don’t think they would want you to read the Gospel of Judas since he is wrongly described as a hate figure, nor the Gospel according to Mary Magdalene which tells of her “special” relationship with Jesus and how the other disciples despised her. I am sure much more has been discarded and at least as much added over the last couple of millenniums; which makes me smile wryly when confronted with “this is the word of God brigade; but since this is the only evidence they’ve got to “prove” the existence of God, who can blame them.

The bishops of the Catholic Church compiled the 73 inspired books of the Holy Bible once and for all time at the end of the 4th Century. The removal of 7 books by Martin Luther was motivated by the fact that some of these books contained strong teaching on doctrinal issues Luther intended to oppose. Luther actually planned on trashing 10 books of God’s Word, but his followers wouldn’t allow him to remove the 3 New Testament books he intended to remove. Which is why God still tells us through the Apostle James that faith and works are equally important, while Protestants insist that they are not.
