Who deals in quarantine for commercial imports of planting materials?
For commercial imports, the Plant Quarantine Stations (29) under the Directorate of Plant Protection Quarantine and Storage (DPPQS) undertakes quarantine processing and clearance of bulk consignments of grains/ pulses for consumption and seeds/ planting materials for sowing/ planting. The National Plant Quarantine Station at Rangpuri, New Delhi, and four Regional Plant Quarantine Stations at Amritsar, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai are the major stations. The other stations are located at places having international airport/ seaport/ land frontier with neighbouring countries. Import of bulk material for sowing/ planting purposes are authorized only through these stations.
