Who determines how many NPIs will be assigned to any given entity?

Each organizational provider is responsible for determining the number of NPIs based on their business needs. Your organization may consider obtaining an NPI for clinics that have a unique location, TIN and remit address. Remember that each individual healthcare provider needs an NPI as well.
