Who develops the writing prompts?
In the past, writing prompts were written by classroom teachers, advisory committee members, the NCDPI English Language Arts Instructional staff, and the NCDPI-North Carolina Testing Program staff. Beginning in 2003, writing prompts will be developed by a contractor according to the NCDPI Accountability Services-North Carolina Testing Program and English Language Arts curriculum specifications. The Writing Assessment Advisory Committees, composed of practicing classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, administrators, and the NCDPI staff then review, revise, and approve all prompts.
