Who Dissed David Petraeus and Our Military Thinkers?
Let’s put the Bush disrespect of the military leadership in context. John Kerry blew a joke – Bushco’s entire war prosecution IS a joke. Rather than engage in an honest dialogue about the truth and our options, he seizes upon deflection after deflection. In an attempt to fire up the base, he elicits a Pavlovian response from 2004. Some of the finest military leaders we have were silenced, ignored, misunderstood, unappreciated, marginalized in this war, and not by John Kerry. Donald Rumsfeld chose to surround himself with yes-men who agreed with a willy-nilly, hastily created (2 weeks) Power Point bullet point (sic) approach to “occupation,” based on chickenhawk thinktank fantasies about the Middle East and how to win. They have been proven wrong. The wisest among our military suggested that it was not a good idea to fire the Iraqi military wholesale and Paul Bremer ignored them and did it anyway.
