Who Else Hates Music Snobs?
As a person who is a huge fan of modern music, it really, really aggravates me. The “non-conformist” kids is my school only ever talk about two bands in particular: Owl City and Paramore. Correct me if I’m wrong, but both of these have had #1s recently in the album and singles chart (in the UK). And then there’s all of these bands that I’ve never listened to, but all the names seem to sound similar: All Time Low, We The Kings, Taking Back Sunday, Dashboard Confessional to name a few off the top of my head. I know a girl who seems to take pleasure in coming up to me when I have my iPod on and saying “What are you listening? Really? Urgh! Anything in charts is CRAP!” before adding in a completely patronising tone “No offense if you like it or anything”. It’s unfair to pickpoint teenagers on this. Musical snobbery is everywhere. “Proper” music magazines consider anything that is not Rock, Indie or Shoegaze, to be a pile of rubbish. A lot of older people consider anything past the Britpop
