Who funds WEA’s operations?

Funding for WEA is provided through application fees under the Wheat Export Accreditation Scheme, as well as through the Wheat Export Charge (WEC). Funds held by the former Export Wheat Commission (EWC) were transferred to WEA when it started operating on 1 July 2008. The 2007 wheat crop was badly affected by drought and was well below expectations. The subsequent drop in wheat exports led to reduced revenue collected through the WEC. The Australian Government is providing up to $5 million to assist WEA’s operations as it gets established.
