Who gets more kidney stones, men or women?
Men have a greater frequency of kidney stones (3:1) then women, with the exception of struvite or infection stones, which are higher in women. The reason for the low stone rate is women is due to higher citrate levels in the urine of women. The citrate levels increases during pregnancy and protects against stone disease during pregnancy.
