The typical American blue jeans, as well know them, were first invented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss, as far back as the year 1873! These two gifted immigrants had the foresight to see what could be made out of a simple piece of denim, thread, and a piece of metal. When they made the world's first pair of blue jeans, however, they meant it to be used for working in. Therefore, they called them 'waist overalls'. Meant to be used by workers, it was supposed to be a sturdy and at the same time practical and comfortable dress. Initially, the waist overalls were made in indigo blue and 'duck' brown, but the popularity of the blue pants far exceeded that of the brown pants, and soon, everyone everywhere wanted to own and to wear a pair of blue jeans, a term invented by the 'baby boom' generation, which craved blue jeans. This was how blue jeans were invented, and they remain popular with people across the globe, no matter how old or young one is! more

Denim is a kind of tough cotton cloth that is used today to make blue jeans. Originally the word was used for a kind of serge cloth made in the French city of Nimes. This originated from the French word for the Italian city of Genoa. That's because a cloth used to make denim trousers once come largely from Genoa. ... more

eans fabric was made in Chieri, a town near Turin (Italy), in the 1600s. It was sold through the harbour of Genoa, which was the capital of an independent republic, and a naval power. The first were made for the Genoese Navy because it required all-purpose pants for its sailors that could be worn wet or dry, and whose legs could easily be rolled up to wear while swabbing the deck. These jeans would be laundered by dragging them in large mesh nets behind the ship, and the sea water would bleach them white. According to many people the jeans name comes from bleu de Gênes, i.e., blue of Genoa[citation needed].
