Forms of bowling have been around since the Ancient Egyptian times and interestingly enough, no one is quite sure who the official "inventor" is. It started in Egypt and then spread throughout the world in the subsequent centuries to Germany, to England and then to America. No one has stepped forward to take credit for this sport.
We can only say for sure that bowling as we know it today in the U.S. (played with ten pins) emerged around the 1870s since it was around that time that nine pin bowling was banned because of its perceived similarities with other forms of gambling.
