Who invented the parachute?

0

The first practical parachute was invented by Sebastien in 1783. Parachutes were conceived and sketched by Leonardo Da Vinci earlier. In 1911, two parachuters — Grant Morton and Capt. Albert Berry — claimed to be the first to jump from an airplane. In 1914, Georgia Broadwick made the first freefall jump. In 1797, Andrew Garnerin was the first person recorded to jump with a parachute without a rigid frame.

Imagine stepping off into space three miles in the air and then landing on the ground with no more shock than if you had jumped down from a 3-metre fence. You could do itwith a parachute! A parachute is simply a big umbrella that creates air resistance. With a parachute a man may drift down through the air slowly enough to avoid injury when striking the ground. The parachute is probably the oldest idea for man-carrying aircraft. Leonardo da Vinci sketched one in his notebook in 1514. Fausto Veranzio published a description of a workable parachute in 1595. The first man to use a parachute is believed to be a Frenchmen called J. P. Blanchard. In 1785 he dropped a dog in a basket, to which a parachute was attached, from a balloon high in the air. Blanchard claimed that he himself descended from a balloon in a parachute in 1793, breaking his leg upon landing. Another Frenchman, J. Garnerin, gets the credit for being the first man to use a parachute regularly.
