Who is a veterinarian?
A veterinarian is a physician who treats animals. (Root word; L. veterinarius “of or having to do with the beasts of burden”). Besides diagnosing, treating animal health problems, and performing surgeries, many veterinarians also become specialists as they choose to specialize in a specific clinical field of veterinary medicine. American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) recognizes a veterinary specialist as a veterinarian who has successfully completed the process of board certification in a AVMA- recognized veterinary specialty organization.
