Who is Alfred Hitchcock?
Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980) is considered to be one of the greatest and most influential directors of films in the suspense genre. He directed over 50 films, starting with silent movies in England in the 1920s. He was also known for his rather peculiar habits, particularly his obsession with actress Tippi Hedrin, who appeared in The Birds and Marnie in the 1960s. Alfred Hitchcock was fond of relating a story of one of his father’s “teaching” lessons when he was a teen. His father sent him to a local police station with a note. When the police read the note, they locked him in a cell for a few minutes. This lesson certainly is expressed in many of Hitchcock’s films where there exists a distrust of authority figures, of both parents and the police. Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, KBE (13 August 1899 – 29 April 1980) was a British filmmaker and producer who pioneered many techniques in the suspense and psychological thriller genres. After a successful career in his native United Kingdom in both silent films and talkies, Hitchcock moved to Hollywood. In 1956 he became an American citizen while retaining his British citizenship. Hitchcock directed more than fifty feature films in a career spanning six decades. He remains one of the best-known and most popular filmmakers of all time.
