Who is an appropriate safety authority for locating identified sites?

Section 192.905 requires that information on identified sites be obtained from “public officials with safety or emergency response or planning responsibilities”. That section also states that this “could include officials on a local emergency planning commission or relevant Native American tribal officials.” The precise titles of the appropriate officials are likely to vary from community to community. They may include the fire chief, or equivalent, or public officials who would be responsible for evacuations in the event of a natural disaster. Each operator is responsible for identifying appropriate public officials. If an operator cannot locate public officials who can provide information about locations meeting the criteria for identified sites, then the operator must use one of the other methods identified in Section 192.905 to locate them.
