I believe that I have the same book as you, this was the original cover for the 1st Harry Potter book. At the time I believed that it was Dumbledore, but felt very unsure about that and pondered for a while. But then after reading the 6th book I believe that it is a much younger Albus Dumbledore, as stated with this description from Chapter 13 “”This younger Albus Dumbledore’s long hair and beard were auburn. Having reached the side of the pavement, drawing many curious glances due to the flamboyantly cut suit of plum velvet that he was wearing.” I really don’t know why they kept the younger version there, but hopefully this helps!
