ANSWER from Michelle Mock on 21 April 2006: This is kind of a trick question! “It all started with a mouse”… Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse was born from Walt Disney’s imagination on a train, when Walt was returning to California from New York. Walt had gone there to renegotiate a contract for another character named Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Unfortunately, he learned that the distributor had acquired the rights to the character and Walt no longer had his first popular character. So, as he rode home, he started sketching and a little mouse named Mickey was born. Mickey’s birth year is 1928. His girlfriend, of nearly 80 years, Minnie Mouse, is the same age: 78 this year. Now, the reason I say it is a trick question… there are other characters who are actually older… for example, Winnie the Pooh turned 80 this year.
