Who makes the travel arrangements for a campus visit, and who pays? Does this differ between 4-year schools and CCs?

Most 4-year schools will pick up the costs. Most CC’s will not, or will do so only up to a certain dollar amount. Practices vary: at some schools, you will be directed to make your own travel arrangements and save your receipts for reimbursement; at others, the departmental administrative assistant will make arrangements for you (with your input, usually). One of the most common ways to do it is for the school to make hotel arrangements, since they know which hotels of reasonable quality are most convenient to the campus, and for the candidate to make his/her own flight arrangements. Unless specifically stated by the search committee chair, schools will usually not provide for a candidate’s spouse to come along on such a trip.
