Who may apply to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Application Program?

A. Students in grades 5, 6 and 7 may apply to the 6th, 7th and 8th grade application tier of the program (“Application MYP”). Incoming 8th graders will have missed approximately one and one-half years of a foreign language and would therefore be placed in a level one Spanish or French unless they had similar background in the language from a previous experience. Students who do not choose the application program and enroll as a regular student will automatically be in the MYP regular program tier (“Regular MYP”) . This is currently being piloted in grade 6 but will move to grades 7 and 8 in subsequent years. We will eventually be a full-school MYP but will maintain its challenge tiers (requiring an application) at all levels. MYP methodology, philosophy and standards are of the highest quality and are appropriate for all students. Students who need greater intervention with basic skills will receive them.
