Who performs Ultrasound Examinations at Other Centers?

0

Your obstetric care provider may perform an ultrasound examination in the clinic to answer a specific question. Ultrasounds performed in the Perinatal Assessment Center or the Radiology Department will include a specific set of measurements and a specific set of views of your uterus, the placenta, and the baby’s anatomy. These studies are generally performed by a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ultrasound technologist) with special training and certification in obstetrics. Images are reviewed by either a doctor specializing in Maternal and Fetal Medicine or a Radiologist. The doctor may come into the room to ask a few questions to better understand your case, or may ask to scan for him or herself. Because the quality of ultrasound examination is highly dependent upon operator experience, patients may be assured that all physicians and sonographers working in the Ultrasound/Genetics Unit are highly experienced in providing obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound services.
