The Pediatrics in Practice Health Promotion Curriculum emerged from the tenets of Bright Futures, a heath promotion/illness prevention initiative whose mission is “to promote and improve the health, education, and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, families, and communities” through the development of educational materials for health professionals and families. A Bright Futures Health Promotion Workgroup, comprised of pediatricians, educators, parents, and nurses, was formed in 1998 with the charge of developing a health promotion curriculum that addresses the key skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for child health professionals to integrate Bright Futures’ tenets into daily clinical practice. The workgroup is chaired by Henry (Hank) Bernstein, DO, of Children’s Hospital Boston and its members come from hospitals and medical schools throughout the United States. Pediatrics in Practice is the result of the Workgroup’s efforts.
