Who should be consulted by the RO?
The RO decides who is consulted, but this is often the users of the premises or a suitable representative. Some users may in turn need to consult the trustees or owners of their buildings. The RO should be able to advise when considerations are being made and so a school could raise its concerns then. Chief Presiding Officers (POs) should also visit the site immediately prior to an election to familiarise themselves with the facilities and satisfy themselves that no hazards or impediments to safe access for the voters exist. If there is a problem the PO will take necessary action to remedy the problem for the polling period. Again, that visit could be a suitable time for the school to point out problems.
