Who should receive Holy Communion at the Traditional Latin Mass?
To worthily receive Holy Communion, Catholics who are well disposed (i.e. fasting for one hour, not in a state of mortal sin and desirous of receiving the Holy Eucharist), approach the communion rail to receive the Sacred Host on the tongue. The prayer that the priest says in distributing Holy Communion is different than in the Ordinary Form. The priest prays, “May the Body of our Lord Jesus Christ preserve your soul unto life everlasting. Amen.” As the priest says the “Amen” at the end of the prayer the communicant opens his or her mouth as the priest places the Sacred Host on his or her tongue. Catholics who are not prepared to receive the Holy Eucharist as well as non-Catholics are encouraged to make a spiritual communion by uniting their hearts to our Lord by prayer.
