Who thinks Shogun won Against Machida?
The main reason why Rua lost is because he tried to win the belt by going to decision. As the announcer said, “to be the champ you have to beat the champ.” The other reason why people think Rua won is because of Joe Rogan and the other guy announcer. These guys were looking at the fight from Rua’s perspective. They made litte mention about what Machida was actually doing. As a result, thousands of fans paid little attention to what Machida was doing. What won it for Machida was rounds 1 and 2. It was clear he won round 3 and lost 4 and 5. R1 and R2 seemed very close, or not close at all if you were listening to Joe Rogan. The difference was in the scoring and the camera angle. A few times when Rua kicked Machida’s ribs, the camera would only show Rua landing, but it didn’t show Machida’s counter punch landing. Since we didn’t see this, we assumed Rua was scoring when in reality, the points were going to Machida.
