Who wants to be a fire-fighter in Bacup or Haslingden?
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service are on the lookout for anyone who would like to be a retained firefighter in the Bacup or Haslingden area. Retained firefighters do the same job as the full time ones, but are on-call from home or their place of work. In Lancashire there are around 350 people providing the various services required in this way. In particular, on this occasion, the Fire Service would welcome applications from ‘under-represented groups’ – people from an ethnic minority, or women. What is a retained firefighter? Retained firefighters are professional firefighters paid to do the same job as full time firefighters, but rather than being based at a fire station, they provide on-call cover from home or their place of work. They respond to emergencies when their pager alerts them, so must be within five minutes travel time from the fire station.
