Who was Bloody Mary, and who was Mary, Queen of Scots?
Don’t worry, you’re not the first person to get muddled with the Mary Tudor and Mary Stuart! Bloody Mary, a fittingly vicious nickname that Mary Tudor earned for having had 300 people burned at the stake in her religious persecutions to restore the Roman Catholic Church’s place in England. So, to make it clear, Mary was Elizabeth I’s older sister. Mary was the daughter of King Henry VIII’s first wife, Catherine of Aragon, the poor child was deemed illegitimate after her father divorced her mother and married Anne Boleyn. Having been raised a Catholic and born to a Spanish mother, she kept to her faith and attempted to replace it where ‘it should have been’ all along in England when she became Queen. Bloody Mary is a pretty popular name when it comes to frightening and scaring people, though the majority of people don’t who she was or what she did. Now Mary Stuart! You said you saw Elizabeth?
