Who was Queen Anne?
Anne was the last of the Stuart line, Daughter of James II and sister to Mary II. She was the last Monarch to veto an Act of Parliament and was Queen during the Act of Union which saw the creation of Great Britian by bringing England and Scotland together to form one country. Anne was actually one of he first “Women’s Libbers” in a Royal Family as almost all of her advisors were women, which actually lead to several problems with the Tories with one woman in paticular, Sarah Churchill, as Sarah became increasingly cruel to Anne. The Tories put their own “mole” in the court and had her play up to Anne’s need of sympathy. This resulted in Anne picking her Half Brother “James the old pretender” as the heir to the throne. (It is quite likely that Anne would have tossed the Act of Settlement aside and taken the Duke of Marlborough’s child as heir) Anne’s reign was neither thoroughly exciting, nor was it thoroughly boring.
