The Mexican-American War produced primarily 3 war heroes. The first is Captain John Charles Frémont, nicknamed "The Pathfinder". His contribution to the war was the Bear Flag Revolt, where he led a revolt in San Francisco with a company of 60 to 70 men. This revolt led to the succession of California territory from Mexico. The second one is Zachary Taylor, nicknamed "Rough n' Ready". He led a party of Texan settlers into Mexican territory across the Nueces River to the Rio Grande. He got into a skirmish with Mexican troops, giving the US a means of justifying the war. After President Polk officially declared war with Mexico, Taylor led a expedient and efficient campaign that allowed him to take several strategic Northern provinces of Mexico. The third hero, and probably the most important, is Winfield Scott. Scott was chosen by President Polk to head the Mexico City offensive campaign.
