Who was the real “Lucy” in the sky with diamonds?
Lucy of LSD fame was born Lucy O’Donnell, born in Weybridge, Surrey, England in 1963. She has since married and her name is now Lucy Vodden. Sadly Lucy is terminally ill with Lupus but her legacy will live on with the famous song “Lucy in the sky with Diamonds”. The song recorded by The Beatles, was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney for the 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The original Inspiration for the song came from a drawing by John Lennon’s son, Julian of a childhood friend, which Julian called “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”. The song also sparked controversy when released, including being banned by the BBC because of the supposed reference to the drug LSD, with the letters of the title spelling Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. I hope this answers your question and as for me any reference to LSD is strictly coincidental, I guess we’ll never truly know!
