Who was the southern judge for the Dred Scott case?

0

Chief Justice Roger B. Taney was the judge for the Dred Scott v. Sandford case. He came from a tobacco plantation family from Calvert County, Maryland. Southerners, especially slaveholders, rejoiced and felt relief and vindication when Taney said that no African-American, free or slave, was a U.S. citizen: therefore they could not sue anyone ina federal court. Taney, like others at the time, treated slaves like animals, and believed they were property and could be taken anywhere under U.S. jurisdiction.
