Who were the log cabin presidents?
From studying diverse sources, it seems that for some of the log cabin presidents, their birthplace is a matter of controversy. Edward Pessens The Log Cabin Myth; the Social Backgrounds of the Presidents (c1984) delves into this, putting a question mark (?) after some of the presidents alleged log cabin birthplaces such as Andrew Jackson, but without stating where they actually were bornstill a mystery. According to most sources, these seven presidents were born in a log cabin (shown in this order above): Andrew Jackson, Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore, James Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, and James Abram Garfield. Next to Abraham Lincoln, the most famous log cabin president (for his Log Cabin and Hard Cider Campaign of 1840) was probably William Henry Harrison, who neither was born in a log cabin nor lived in one (except a large farmhouse built around one).
