Confederate Victory: Chancellorsville 1863 General Lee had dispatched part of his Army to Suffolk, Virginia. General Hooker devised a plan where part of his Army would move on Fredericksburg while the bulk of the Army was to launch an attack on Lee. Hooker thought he could catch Lee between his two Armies and destroy him. Lee left 10,000 men under General Early at Fredrecksburg to protect his rear. He took the remainder of his Army and advanced on Hooker’ main Army. Lee was outnumbered 2 to 1. Lee and General Jackson designed a plan whereby Jackson would take part of the Army and march around Hooker’s position and strike him in area where Hooker had no defenses. The Confederates completely surprised the Yankees and drove them from the field. Unfortunately, Jackson was mortally wounded and Hooker’s secondary force overran Early’s men. Lee had to send two of his divisions to stop the oncoming Yankees in his rear. He was going to use the units to support the attack. The end result is that
