Why an ear thermometer?
Compare it to a rectal thermometer: there is no screaming child to deal with; it takes only a couple seconds for a reading; and, in my case, I make a game out of taking a temperature. Why Omron? When I went shopping for an ear thermometer, I needed to find one that was reasonably priced. I found a great deal at Walgreens on the Omron brand: $29.99 with a $10.00 rebate. I couldn’t pass it up. The unit comes with a box of 20 ear probes, a soft carrying case, a lithium battery and very detailed instructions on how to properly use this unit. How do I use it? To properly use an ear thermometer, it is most accurate if you hold the ear lobe, insert the tip in the ear, towards the drum in a downward position, and push the button. If the child moves while you are taking his temperature, I would recommend doing it again to be on the safe side. To make sure of the reading, I usually take it in both ears.
