Why an Earth Day Celebration?
Several years ago, citizens in Nichols Hills started efforts to better the environment with recycle bins for paper, aluminum/tin cans, and glass. Interest in all factors that improve the quality of life, air, electricity, water, proper diet, exercise, and refuse disposal soon began to parallel the national attention to ecological matters. The City Council next joined with concerned citizens to address these issues and formed The Environmental Committee, chaired by Mary Frates. Its purpose is to work with our City officials and Citizens to establish Nichols Hills as the most environmentally sustainable city in Oklahoma by raising awareness and creating a model of community excellence that is interconnected with good management and civic responsibility. Knowing that this effort requires every man, woman, and child to make an entire city more beautiful and environmentally friendly, the Environmental Committee is inviting all those who are interested to join in working for a model communit
