Why are ancient egyptian clothes white?
It could be due to the fact that the clothing was made out of flax, which was soaked, separated, beaten, woven, washed, rinsed, pounded and bleached in the sun, resulting in a white colour. There were no clothing dyes in those times, besides natural colourants, so the Egyptians had no way of dying clothing. White was also considered to be a ‘pure’ colour. The hot weather meant that clothing had to reflect heat, rather than absorb it, so white was chosen for this reason.
