Why are big detached houses in the USA ridiculously cheaper than here in Britain?

Certain places in the U.S are more likely to be hit by natural disasters, so the houses are made from cheaper materials. I.e when I went to California in the summer when we went house shopping they were cheaper because it was cheap enough to rebuild after an earthquake etc.

You go to Disney World Florida for 2 weeks and are gob smacked by house prices. I used to be the same regarding house prices in Australia. My youngest sister lives there and we go to visit every 2 years. She lives in Queensland and has this huge 5 bedroom place that cost less than my modest bungalow here. But the build quality is totally different, lightweight timber frame, pressed alloy cladding. the ‘Tiled’ roof is actually something like what we put on garden sheds but formed to look like tiles etc etc. The land is of course a lot cheaper as we are an over crowded small island, but you are not actually comparing like for like. In both USA and Australia a lot of the homes are built like UK holiday chalets.
