Why are black cats lucky?

0

Luck isn’t something that can be measured scientifically. The idea that black cats, horseshoes, four-leafed clovers, etc. are lucky is merely superstition – it has no basis in fact. As far as I’m aware, the belief that black cats are good luck comes from their (also mythical) association with witches – if a witch sees that you are kind to one of her ‘familiars’, she will refrain from doing you harm. Just as a point of interest, I have owned four black cats over the years, every one of which was run over and killed whilst still young – they certainly weren’t lucky! Also, in America black cats are believed to be bad luck. If anything this shows how silly superstitions are – the same animal can hardly be lucky in one place and unlucky in another, can it?
