Sometimes people feel that it isn’t worth the hassle, I think. Second of all, black women are encouraged to look for a “strong black man” and to stand by him. Black men used to be all but encouraged to date anyone besides black women when they reach a certain status, the whole trophy wife thing. It’s fading now, but there’s no denying the fact that it was a reality in the past. Also, the media’s negative image of black women comes into play. How often is a dark-skinned black woman with her natural hair actually portrayed as drop dead gorgeous on tv or in the movies? Usually she’s stereotyped as loud and ghetto and loose.
