Of all the Old Testament books, the seven in question (Tobit, Judith, Maccabees, 1 and 2, Ecclesiastes, Wisdom, and Baruch) were originally written in Greek, unlike the other books, which were originally written in Hebrew. To distance themselves from Christians, the Palestinian Jews deleted from their canon anything not originally written in Hebrew. This caused two different versions of their own Scriptures, depending on where in the world they lived. Outside of Palestine, the Jews spoke and read Greek, and therefore included these Greek books.
