Why are cross dressers assumed to be gay?
It is mainly due to ignorance. People usually are extremely uncomfortable when confronted with something that is out of the ordinary and does not follow the generally accepted norms, and with things they cannot put a label on and cannot instantly compartmentalize. Whereas women have the freedom to wear what they want, whenever and wherever, and thus never are called cross dressers, although, when you think of it, they are most of the time these days, men have freedom whatsoever in this field. As we all know, the male range of clothing is extremely limited and narrow, uninteresting and plain boring, and mostly very uncomfortable and even unhealthy. A good example is the neck tie. When a man wants to break out of these narrow boundaries, society as a whole is confronted with something that is socially not accepted, and has to put a label on it.
