Why are grapes bad for dogs?
Grapes are very high in SUGAR and since they are not designed to eat sugar, their bodies do not process it very well. ALL FOOD in ALL creatures TURNS TO SUGAR in the digestion process. That’s how we get the “energy” from the foods we eat, animals too do this. When we or animals eat “large amounts” regularly of a high sugar food…either foods high in refined sugars (like the white sugar on your table) OR foods naturally high in sugar…such as GRAPES, bananas, white potatoes, (which have MORE sugar than Yams or Sweet Potatoes…oddly enough!) we are flooding our system with sugar. The pancreas produces Insulin to PROCESS the sugar in our bodies and in animals too…but if we frequently “over dose” on sugar…(keeping in mind that ALL FOOD converts to sugar in the first place…but we ADD TO IT significantly) we are then burdening our body with trying to produce ENOUGH insulin to keep up. Frequently we can’t manage it and then too, our cells become Insulin RESISTANT, they stop absorbing
In a follow up to the answer above (first answer). A large variety of dog foods are now being recalled due to the includence of products, such as grapes, that are not good for dogs.
