Our decision not to include mp3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, mp4, and other common formats is because they are generally consumer level audio. Not all software systems support these formats. Files like .wav are widely supported. In addition, many of these formats add an excess of compression artifacts and lose important audio detail. Even lossless formats can be problematic as there are many cheap or free software converters that do a poor job of converting this audio properly.
